“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16 New Living Translation

When my niece was younger, she adored Pinky Pie from My Little Pony. So much so that she wore the outfit that matched her bright pink hero. She easily identified with the animated cartoons, their storylines, and all the products.

We are drawn to those people who are more like us, who have the same interests and traits. This isn’t a bad thing, since God asks us to be a family of believers who are in community with each other. It’s good for us to encourage, help and pray for one another.

But He also asks us to love those who are not in our inner circle, whether those who are in the faith or those who do not yet know the love of Jesus, so that He can forgive and restore them. We are more alike than we admit, for we all have sin in our lives and need redemption and healing.

Because God has rescued us, we can now become the bridge that provides for anyone’s needs and share the love of Jesus with them. We don’t have to worry about how effective our words or actions are, we just step out in faith and do what Jesus asks. The Holy Spirit will bless our engagement with others, work to melt hearts and guide them to a relationship with our Heavenly Father.

So don’t worry how prepared you are, or that someone is difficult for you to relate to because their lifestyle or worldviews are so much different from yours. Just be willing to obey Jesus when He calls you to care for someone. Let your light shine brightly in this struggling world. He will provide the words and lead you in response to your faith and trust in Him.
