Take Heart!

by Desiree Bustamante

We can have a courageous heart as we wait for God’s plan to unfold.

“Give me not up to the will of my adversaries;
    for false witnesses have risen against me,
    and they breathe out violence.

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord
    in the land of the living!
 Wait for the Lord;
    be strong, and let your heart take courage;
    wait for the Lord!”
Psalm 27:12-14 New Living Translation

Every day we are exposed to events that lead us to cry out as David did, when he complained to God about the violence of his enemies. Yet something in David’s soul remembered that he loved and served a God who loved and cared for Him even more than the rejection and fear he faced. David remembered that it was God who made him king over Israel. It was God who gave him armies to fight for his kingdom and who fulfilled all his needs. It was God who protected Him in the worst situations, even when facing death and destruction.

Once David reflected with gratitude on God’s blessings, hope returned to his soul. He believed once again that he would see God’s goodness during his life on earth. David just needed to patiently wait for God’s plans to unfold, leaning on His strength and courage.

This is also God’s word to us in times of worry, anxiety and despair. He reminds us to focus on what good things He has blessed us with, and to be grateful for everything He has provided. This allows us to lean into His courage and strength to change our fearful attitude to one of expectation that we will see God’s goodness again on this earth.

Do not despair! God is in control, loves us dearly, and desires to bless us more than we can imagine! Hold tightly to Him and take heart that He is working out His plans for us in His perfect time.
