Praise the Lord!

“Oh come, let us sing to the LORD;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the LORD is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.”
Psalm 95:1-5 English Standard Version
Do you ever forget to praise the Lord? Summer has started and for some silly reason, I thought things might slow down, but we’ve been just as busy as ever. This week my son has had soccer camp. It’s not really for spectators, as it’s a long morning and fairly hot. But I wanted to stay and watch him a little bit.
As I sat down and could take just a minute to breathe, I was struck with the beauty in front of me. Wow! Look at those mountains; look at that blue sky! The picture doesn’t even do it justice.
I pray often, but I realize that a lot of the time in my prayers I am asking for things. I say thank you for a lot of things too, which is along the same lines as praise, but I think that praise is an element that I am missing. To take notice of the world around me and say, wow God, look at Your creation! You made those mountains! You made that sky! You are great! And if we don’t have the words, the Psalms are a good way to start.
So stop a minute, and say a little prayer. Yes, ask God for things. Tell Him what’s on Your mind. Thank Him for His many gifts. And praise Him!
