Bearing Burdens With Others

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 English Standard Version

My basketball team my senior year of high school, after placing 5th at state.

I love team sports for the fact that you take away so many life lessons. Specifically, being accountable to one another, and also sharing the burden with your fellow teammates. Even if individually you are doing well, if the team is struggling you struggle hand and hand with them.

Why is it so important that we bear another’s burden? None of us are strong enough to walk through life by our own power. The strongest example of bearing another’s burdens of course, is Christ dying on the Cross. He bore the burdens of the entire world for our sake, because we ourselves could not bear our own. He bore an eternal burden, but we still live this life on earth, here and now, with many trials and hardships. Therefore, we are to bear with one another the burdens of this world. As a community of believers we are to bear our neighbors burdens, encouraging one another, and thus strengthening the whole Body of Christ.

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13 English Standard Version

Keep in mind our neighbors in California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Texas, Florida, and wherever people are feeling the impact of all of these natural disasters. Right now their burden is heavy. Many of them are feeling the weight of overwhelming loss, destruction, and hopelessness. Let us as a body of believers do whatever we can to take on some of that load and bear with them their burden.

Also keep in mind the people near you, your friends, neighbors, coworkers, family members and so on. Do not hesitate to lend a helping hand to those who are in need. Jesus Christ, the Son of God whose reign and kingdom is eternal, came into this world to serve us, and not himself. So let us also serve others, and bear each other’s burdens in the love of Christ Jesus our Lord.
