That’s Not What We’re Here For

Feeling out of place in this world.

The world focuses on accomplishments—status, wealth, security, happiness. But as Christians that is not what we are here for.

????????????????????????????????????

These flamingos are out of place. They are located by the side of the road near a gas station on a highway to Alamosa, CO. It’s not exactly their native habitat. They are out of place, just as we are when we try to live a Christian life in a secular world.

We will never be content striving for what the world pursues. It’s very difficult to always see and live our life the way Christ wants us to. We are pounded daily with the opposite message—to conform to the ways of this world. And with that struggle, our sense of purpose doesn’t last and discontentment creeps in. But be encouraged.

“Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.” Dear friends, I warn you as ‘temporary residents and foreigners’ to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.”
1 Peter 2:10-12 New Living Translation

We have an identity and purpose in Him. We must not focus on the world’s pursuits, but on living lives that will lead others to become a flock of out of place flamingos living for Christ in this world.
