God’s Faithfulness

One of my favorite things in the world is the grand old game of baseball. I know it isn’t as popular as it used to be, but I find such joy in the game. Of course, we ought not forget the great quote of F Scott Fitzgerald about the sport, “Baseball is a game played by idiots for morons.” It is hard to argue with that!
Our image for consideration today is one of my favorite places in the world: Wrigley Field. It was originally named Weeghman Park and was built on the grounds once occupied by a seminary. It is one of the oldest ballparks in the sport and has lots of fun and unique features.
It has ivy covered brick walls in the outfield. It is in the middle of a neighborhood, so there are locals that watch from the rooftops. They didn’t have lights until 1989, so all games were played in the day.
One thing this place has not seen a lot of? Winning. Yet, the faithful fan base continues to root for the team even during long stretches of not being competitive. I believe this has some application for those of us who consider ourselves Christians.
In your life and in my life, sometimes we lose. We can lose a lot. There are times when it seems as though nothing goes our way and we can become frustrated and dejected. Yet God invites us to find our meaning and purpose outside of our current circumstances. How far would we get in life if we only saw God in the good times, but not in the bad times?
When we walk with God, it isn’t always about our faithfulness to Him, but His faithfulness to us. In 1 John 1:9 we read,
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”.
English Standard Version
God is the one who is faithful and just, even when we walk away from Him and are astray in our sin. He is the one that offers forgiveness through His Son Jesus. He is the one that calls us back to Himself and gives us grace and peace!
I pray that God holds you in His hands and that you find that to be the best “comfy confines” that you could ever find.
