“My child, listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
For the Lord grants wisdom!”
Proverbs 2: 1-6 New Living Translation
If you’ve ever grown a garden, or helped pick crops from one, it’s exciting when harvest time comes. You diligently look under every leaf for the treasures the plants yield. A lot of fruits, and vegetables, are good at staying hidden under the leaves, so you turn over every single one to make sure you haven’t left any ripe produce on the plants. It’s exciting to enjoy the tasty treasures of your harvest, and savor the nutritious food it produces.
God asks us to seek His wisdom in the same way. He wants us to search for His wisdom as diligently as we would if we were searching for treasures of silver. God wants us to know who He really is, to understand His word, and to understand His plan for us. Without wisdom this is not possible. Wisdom is the gift that He has promised to give generously to all who ask Him for it.
Search for wisdom as diligently as you would those vegetables in your garden, for the spiritual harvest you reap will be the best treasure you will ever receive.
