“Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest?’ I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”
John 4:35
This malting barley is still far from ready to harvest. The heads have not yet fully formed, and the plants are far too immature. It will be months before it is ready to reap. We will wait patiently until it is time to harvest.
Jesus encourages us in today’s verse to look to God’s work, and timing, in witnessing and bringing new people to faith in Him. Too many times we postpone telling others about our Lord Jesus as the Way of salvation. Too many times we hold back from asking others if they would like to hear the Good News of our Savior. We act as if the harvest is not yet ready.
Do not hold back! Many people are waiting to hear the Good News. The Holy Spirit may have already prepared them for your simple witness. The field may be far further along toward harvest than you can imagine. If you are praying for someone to know Christ, if God is laying their name upon your heart, do not wait! The Lord goes before us to prepare many for faith in Him.
Jesus said in Matthew, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” There is far more harvesting of souls than you and I can imagine. Ask the Lord to give you courage, and boldness, to share His Good News. Many will die without Jesus unless we speak out.
Pray for God’s timing, and His work, to prepare the harvest of souls, and then step out boldly with the Word of Life in our Lord Jesus Christ. The harvest is now!
