The Light of Christ

I know we aren’t quite to the Christmas season, but there are signs that it is rapidly approaching. The stores already have the Christmas stuff out in the aisles and the songs have found their way onto the radio. We just had over 24 inches of snow in three days where I live!
Today’s image is that of a cross on the front of a church. Snow was lightly falling as we lit the cross and the church that chilly evening. I love the image because you can see the people gathered and the illuminated cross against a dark sky.
In John 8:12, we read,
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
English Standard Version
I know that there have been times in my life where things were dark. I have been hungry, homeless, forgotten and grieved. But one comfort I had was there was a light on that will never go out.
That is the light of the world, Jesus Christ! The Gospel of John begins,
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:1-5, ESV
A bit of light can make all the difference. If you are going through a dark time right now, I encourage you to seek the light of Christ! It may be found in a close friend, a pastor, the wonderful pages of scripture. Even in the darkest of nights, dawn comes to bring a new day.
