“Grandchildren are the crown of the aged…”
Proverbs 17:6a English Standard Version

CT and Elsa have only one child, a daughter named Kim.  Kim was born in Canada, and then the family moved back to Hong Kong.  Raised in a Canadian school there, Kim went to college in Toronto and graduate school in London. Her father, CT, had a severe stroke shortly after she finished school. Kim met our son, Tim, in Chicago, and they married and moved to the Bay area.  There little Henry was born.  Because of her father’s disability, CT was unable to come to the United States to meet Henry.

This picture is CT meeting his grandson for the first time.  Although CT had been an accomplished engineer and an outstanding athlete before his stroke, you can see that the joy and pride of meeting his grandson is greater than all his earthly accomplishments.  For indeed, grandchildren are the crown of the aged!  They are the joy and pride and reward of all that we had hoped for, to see our children’s children, to experience our children becoming parents and loving their children.

Our Lord desires that all would become His children.  “To all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become the children of God.” (John 1:12) Our heavenly Father desired so much that we might be his children that He sent His own Son into the world to redeem us from sin, that we might be adopted into the family of God!

No longer are we far away and estranged from our Father!  The prodigal returns home, the lost are found, we are made one in the family of God.  Praise God that He has opened the way for us to be with him forever in our Lord Jesus Christ! There is joy in heaven over every prodigal that returns home, over every newborn son and daughter in Christ Jesus!  Amen.
