Signs of God

Something happened in the state of Colorado that seemingly NEVER happens: We saw the Northern Lights! Today’s image shows the incredible sight it truly was! The colors were so vivid, the contrast so strong, the expanse so immense.
The prophet Isaiah writes,
“Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.”
Isaiah 58:8, English Standard Version
I think people have always looked to the skies for inspiration, even for signs of God. In the Bible, there are so many powerful examples. Being that we are in the month of December, it makes sense that we would focus on the Star of Bethlehem in Matthew 2,
“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
ESV
Where do you look for inspiration? Where do you look for signs of God? I have to admit, the two nights where I saw these lights, it was a beautiful sight and an overwhelming experience. I’ve never seen such a sight! No wonder Psalm 19 exclaims,
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”
ESV
As amazing as the sights of the sky are, they serve a purpose: For years mankind has used the stars as a map, as a way of navigating on a journey. Often sailors used the North Star for navigation to determine their position and direction.
Jesus is described in a similar way in Revelation 22,
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
ESV
I pray that Jesus would not only be the light in your life, but that He would show you the way to His Father. That He would show you forgiveness, life and salvation! As this year draws to a close, I invite you to think about your life and about how God is leading. Maybe our Lord has amazing experiences and sights in store for you, even better than the Northern Lights!
