“Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it.”
1 John 2:7-8a New Living Translation
Happy “I Care About You Day!” Today is a national holiday originally established through social media to promote caring for others and thus making the world a better place. While it’s nice to have a day to remind us, God has commanded us to love each other every single day.
We all need someone to love and to be loved by someone. Everyone needs connection. Even the scientific community has studied the positive benefits that people experience when they have social connections and relationships. We recover faster, live longer, stress less and are happier. As Christians, we know the value of relationships in God’s kingdom and to our lives.
Not that we love others to benefit us, but we love because God first loved us, proving His love by giving His Son to redeem us from sin. In return, we now freely show love and encouragement to others as a response to God’s overwhelming love for us.
Today should be celebrated every day by God’s children, as we mirror our Father’s love for us by bringing others into His fold through our kindness and acts of love. Reach out to someone today and let them know that they have a Heavenly Father who loves them and that you love them, too!
