Guidance Through Change

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8, English Standard Version

You’ve probably heard the phrase “the only constant is change.”  Change is clearly on my mind recently (as I’ve written about it before), but no wonder with a baby in the house!  With babies, just when you think you’ve settled into a routine and you know what to do, they suddenly develop a new skill (like pulling up to standing as in this picture!) or something else changes, and the whole routine you’ve established goes out the window.

Isn’t all life like this?  Just when you think things are calm and settled, here comes something new, good, bad, or in between, to shake things up.  Hebrews 13 gives one of my favorite verses, as quoted above.  Through all life’s changes, Jesus stays the same.  But this chapter of Hebrews has other guidance for us, besides the reassurance of God’s constancy.  It reminds us how to live while we are on earth in this changing world.  A reminder to love one another along the way.  And to put Godly things above earthly things.

Change can be so hard.  But I encourage you today to pick up your Bible and remember the words given to us here on earth, to find guidance in the changes of life.  And to remember that not only is Jesus constant, but that He is with us through every change.  We are not alone!

“for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?””
Hebrews 13:5=6, ESV

When the baby won’t sleep because he’s suddenly teething, or when illness occurs, or we lose a loved one, or financial troubles hit us unexpectedly, or when we move to a new place, or in any other of life’s many changes, let us take heart knowing that God is forever, and that we are not alone!
