The Road Ahead

Trusting God With our Pathways

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5–6, English Standard Version

There are seasons in life when I wish God would simply show me the whole picture. I want to know where He is leading me. I want to understand why certain things are happening. I want to know how everything is going to work out before I take the next step.

Sometimes the path ahead feels uncertain, and if we’re honest, uncertainty can make us anxious. We start asking questions: What if I make the wrong decision? What if this doesn’t turn out the way I hoped? What is God doing in all of this? Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us that trusting God doesn’t require us to have all the answers. God isn’t asking us to understand everything; rather, He is asking us to trust Him.

Easier said than done! There are moments when I find myself trying to figure things out on my own, whether that’s replaying conversations, thinking through every possible outcome, or trying to make sense of what I can’t see. But the Lord gently reminds me that I was never meant to carry the responsibility of knowing everything, because He already knows. He sees the beginning, the middle, and the end. He knows the road ahead even when all I can see is the next step.

Scripture gives us this beautiful promise: “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” I love that Scripture says all our ways — not just the big decisions or the moments when we need a miracle. We can invite Him into our plans, our relationships, our work, our worries, our hopes, and even the things that seem too small to matter. We can simply say, “Lord, I don’t know what to do, but I trust You. Please lead me.”

Making our paths straight doesn’t mean the road will always be easy. It doesn’t mean there won’t be unexpected turns, closed doors, or seasons when we have to wait. But it does mean that we are never walking alone. The Lord is faithful to guide us. We can trust Him with what we understand and especially with what we don’t understand. The God who has been faithful to you this far will be faithful on the road ahead.
