It was the best of tanks, it was the worst of tanks, it was the age of beta fish, the age of tiny shrimp, it was the epoch of filtration, it was the epoch of travel. Or so the story goes! Our image for consideration is from my own home, an unique aquarium setup: A tube that connects a fishbowl to a rectangular aquarium.
Like me you may wonder, “Why in the world?”, but you’d be asking the wrong question. The question you should consider is, “Why haven’t I done this in my home?” It may be counter intuitive but think about it: It opens up a new world for the fish.
Can you imagine living in the same tiny space for your whole life? Nothing really changes, it just all stays the same. Maybe you can imagine it, because that is part of your life. Maybe you have lived in the same area pretty much your whole life and feel like you are missing out.
Travel is definitely something that many people find joy in doing. It might be to see family, or to take in a special event. It could be because you want to travel and see some things different from your home.
Now, in theory, the fish in the tank and bowl can travel back and forth. I’ve not seen them do this just yet, but it stands to reason that eventually they will figure it out. It reminds me of a passage in the Bible about travel, Exodus 13:21
“And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.”
English Standard Version
Our Lord opens up a new world to us in His Son Jesus, even if we are not the most seasoned travelers. When you open the pages of the Bible, you are transported to a different time and place. You can experience the way that the story of Jesus unfolds! Why not go on a travel adventure with God today?
