Stepping Out in Faith

I was in an airport recently looking for something to eat while waiting on my next flight. I pulled up the restaurants on an app, looked at the recommendations, and landed in front of a vending machine full of salads and fresh items. The app said that the food was fresh, but I wasn’t expecting a vending machine and was left wondering if I trusted food out of a vending machine. I looked at the options in the machine and finally decided to take a chance. I bought two salads and they were delicious! I was converted.
The struggle with the unknown is we have to decide if we’re going to take the risk. Managing the risk versus benefit is how most of us decide how much the risk is worth. But is there another way to make decisions, even if it doesn’t make sense to others?
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 ESV
Faith is moving forward even when we can’t see. Traversing the unknown is a richer experience when the living God is leading us into uncharted waters. God has never left us and will never desert us.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV
I highly recommend reading Isaiah 43, but here is a taste of that chapter:
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” Isaiah 43:2 ESV
I recently started a business that causes me to catch my breath at times. The unknown of business is so overwhelming at times that I stop and worship in the middle of moments so I won’t get paralyzed by the “what ifs.”
As we venture with God there will be times He will ask us to trust Him to carry us through the valleys. This is because, even more important than a successful endeavor, is a solid relationship with Jesus.
Take the leap today into faith with Jesus. Even if it is something that seems small, just start. Partner with the Holy Spirit to increase your level of trust in God.
