When You Are Alone
“And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil.”
Luke 4:1-2a English Standard Version
So often our most wonderful times of joy and intimacy with God are followed by times alone in the wilderness, tested and tempted by the devil. Jesus experienced this fully, having been anointed by the Holy Spirit at his baptism and then led into testing in the wilderness, sorely tempted by the devil for forty days.
Are you in such a wilderness place right now, feeling alone and tested physically, emotionally, spiritually? How will you survive this lonely, forsaken place?
Jesus, in the midst of his testing, turns to his Father and the Word of God. With each temptation of Satan he answers with a clear command of God, trusting in God’s promises, not his own feelings and situation.
In your wilderness place, trust in God and his Word, not your feelings and present circumstances. “God is faithful…with the temptation he will provide the way of escape…” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
Lord, we cry out to you in the wilderness, for in you we are never alone….
