God Is Faithful

I remember my sleep deprived days as a parent of three children. Getting up and getting them ready for school, packing lunches and picking them up afterwards. Practice for sports, scouting, homework, and then all the fun stuff too!
I also remember people saying, “Enjoy this, it goes by fast!” and I didn’t really believe them. I mean, it was all I could do to get a moment of peace, much less enjoy things. But they were right!
Today’s image captures a moment in time where my then 7-year-old stood in front of a mission church I planted in Florida. We had just moved into a standalone storefront!
That photo is almost 15 years old now, and that cute kiddo is 22-years-old with a full beard! The church is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall. Ah, they do grow up so fast!
This is a great encouragement to us today: Families grow, and churches grow, often not because of us, but despite us! You may look at your family or your church and worry about the future, you may worry about mistakes you made along the way. Regret can fill us and rob us of joy and of hope.
Our Lord has a different word for us in the face of that: In 1 Corinthians 3, we read,
“ I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth”.

In this text, Paul gives the credit to God!
Yes, life moves fast. The great news is that we don’t go through life alone, for God is with us! Not only that, but He places people in our life to experience the highs and the lows. I am so incredibly blessed by my children, by my church, and so many others God has given to me.
It wasn’t long ago that YOU were a little one. You couldn’t wait to get done with school. You wanted to play with the big kids. You wanted a car. You wanted out of the house. And here you are, independent and have all those freedoms you wanted long ago. Of course, part of you longs to go back to the simplicity of those early days. You grew up fast!
Every step of the way, God was faithful. He will continue to be faithful, now and always!
