Three Dog Day

Our image for today is of the three dogs that I call my own. I readily admit my wife is more enthusiastic about their existence than I am many days. But they are part of the family! This image captures their journey back home after being boarded for a week. I think it captures the moment nicely.

I suppose many of us can relate to the emotion and the importance of returning home. Perhaps you travel a lot for a living, spending many evenings in hotel rooms and then spending hours at airports and rental car counters. It can be exhausting!

Or maybe you don’t travel, but you work long days. You do what is asked of you and even more, and one of the rewards is when you pull into the driveway and know that the day is done and now you can rest and relax in your own home.

In John 14, Jesus says,

“’Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'”
John 14, English Standard Version

Isn’t it powerful for you to know that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life? And that He has prepared a place for you, a home, a real sense of belonging? In 1835, Thomas Taylor wrote a hymn,

“I’m but a stranger here, Heaven is my home; Earth is a desert drear; Heaven is my home: Danger and sorrow stand, Round me on every hand; Heaven is my fatherland, Heaven is my home.”

When my dogs got back home, they were pretty happy. They have the places they lie down, the water bowls, the T-R-E-A-T-s (we spell treats in our home), and where they watch cars go by and squirrels run.
I pray that you know our Lord Jesus and His love for you! In His life, death and resurrection He has given you a real home, a place where you will always belong.
