A Safe Place

If you have ever been to the beach, you have likely found a few tide pools here and there. Tide pools are rocky formations that trap the water in little holes as the tide falls. I don’t know if you have ever gone tide pooling, but let me tell you, it is a lot of fun!
Sometimes as you explore these little pools, you can find all sorts of sea life that are stuck there, at least for the day! It is a great way to satisfy your curiosity, but make sure you have good shoes on and that you are careful. It is often slippery, and jagged rocks are not know for being fun places to land.
John Steinbeck in Cannery Row, explores the idea of what tide pools can represent: When the tide goes out, “the little water world becomes quiet and lovely”. All the creatures come out from under their rocks and resume normal life.
Have you ever thought much about the idea that a tide can come in and churn your life all over the place? But once it goes out, it can become a tranquil and calm place? I know my life has had its share of this, even this past week!
No matter if it is high tide or low tide, God is our rock and our foundation. Matthew 7 gives us a powerful reminder that God is our refuge in the midst of the storms of life.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
English Standard Version
God is our foundation when the worries of life churn around us! We find a safe place with Him.
