“For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel
‘In returning and in rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and in trust shall be your strength’.”
Isaiah 30:15 English Standard Version
My husband took this photo, near Divide, Colorado, during a men’s retreat. He had hoped to catch a few fish, with his fly rod, before sunrise on that beautiful, quiet, early morning.
What he caught was this awesome view of the lake, and a reflection of the trees and clouds, upon the stillness of the fog kissed water. What a peaceful sight! Many people come to Colorado, and other places around the world, to find such a spot.
Maybe they are also seeking comfort, quieting of the heart, and peace. I often seek solace in quiet still places outdoors. It is there that I gain introspection, and clarity, on issues that cause anxiety and fear within my life. I can talk to the Lord, and pray for guidance and reassurance.
During the season of Lent, we are called to reflect upon our life and what God has done for us. God longs for us to be on an intimate level with him, not just to offer a superficial nod every once in a while. Our innermost thoughts, and desires, should be brought before the Lord on a daily basis.
Thinking about God knowing my innermost ideas, concerns, needs, wishes, and sins is both daunting and comforting at the same time. As an independent person, I want to solve my own problems and figure out just what my path should be. However, God usually has other plans for my life, and I must listen to that soft voice calling to help me navigate the route.
Lord, may I find time in this busy world to seek out those quiet places, and moments, to reflect upon my life and personally communicate with you.
