Too Nice a Day!

Too Good to be True!

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 New International Version

The picture accompanying this devotion is of my wife, Margaret, and me at the Oregon beach in April.  I want you to notice two things.  It is warm and there are no clouds.  That may not seem like a big deal to you if you are from California or Florida, but it simply does not happen on the Oregon coast in April.  In fact, even in summer it is rarely this warm.

It was too good to be true!

Have you been offered a deal that is too good to be true?  Offered a gift that could not be believed?  Then you will understand the amazement of the above Bible verse; “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

That is too good to be true!  Why would the holy God want to have anything to do with rotten sinners?  Why would He send His Son to die for us?  What kind of love is this, that would do such an outrageous thing?

This is the unexplainable love of God that comes to us in our sin and loves us without any expectation of return.  This is the unexplainable mercy of God who would offer up His Son to die for us.  This is the unexplainable kindness of God that rescues His fallen, ungrateful, rebellious, undeserving, wayward children.

I cannot explain this grace of God that loves us ever so much.  A meteorologist might be able to explain the weather on that particular day on the Oregon coast, but no person in this world can ever fully explain or grasp this merciful love of our Father in heaven!  Praise God for His unexplainable mercy for you and me!
