Underground

God desires to reveal his heart to us.

Our family went to a living, or ‘alive’, cave last week. Blanchard Springs Caverns, in Mountain View Arkansas, is just a short drive from my hometown. I have been to this area multiple times over the years, but didn’t realize this hidden treasure.

There are eight miles of underground caverns that are still forming. The stalagmites, and stalactites, are created one drop of water at a time.

This is one of the only living underground cave systems in the world that has public access, but how many choose to visit it or even realize it exists?

Jesus came to uncover the secrets of heaven to people closest to him, but how many at that time knew that this was His purpose? How many people even wanted to listen to Him? How many rejected Him when He walked the Earth?

“This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet: ‘I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.'”
Matthew 13:35

God hides things, but he wants to reveal them to us through the Holy Spirit for the benefit of ourselves and for others.

“It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.”
Proverbs 25:2

The hidden areas of God are numerous, and never ending.

On the flip side, we hide things in our hearts that we think no one can see, including God. This can be selfish ambition, hate, anger, bitterness, and so on. We may as well hand over all those hidden sins to God. He sees them anyway.

“So do not make any hasty or premature judgments before the time when the Lord comes [again], for He will both bring to light the secret things that are [now hidden] in darkness and disclose and expose the [secret] aims (motives and purposes) of hearts. Then every man will receive his [due] commendation from God.”
1 Corinthians 4:5

Adam and Eve tried to hide from God in the Garden of Eden, but He already knew everything. We can’t outrun God.

If we keep laying the hidden secrets in our hearts at God’s feet, he will continue to show the hidden things in His heart.

The more transparent we become with Him, the more He reveals to us.
