“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.”
Hebrews 12:28-29 English Standard Version
The recent fires in Hawaii, Canada, and other parts of the world have brought home the fact that our world is vulnerable to extreme devastation that even threatens our very lives. But we also know that, though God created the earth, it is not our ultimate home. As believers in Christ, we know that our eternity is spent with God in His kingdom, one that will never be shaken by anything in this world. Do you find comfort in those words? No matter what takes place on earth, your true treasure, Jesus Christ, lives in your heart and is waiting for you in heaven.
Yet God is a consuming fire. Not toward those who love Him, but toward all sin and evil in this world. Our fears can melt away in the light of His purifying flame. He will wipe away all evil and sadness and the tears of those who have lost everything, yet cling to Jesus for their comfort and worship Him in reverence as their Lord and Savior.
God is to be exalted for His power and majesty. His is to be praised for His faithfulness to His loved ones. Let us stand before our Almighty God in awe, worshiping Him with gratitude that His kingdom is built on unshakeable ground. He will keep us safe from the fire storm of sin and evil through all eternity!
