“The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him.”
Psalm 28:7 New Living Translation
Little children often have a lot of confidence. Each new skill they learn gives them a sense of invincibility and prods them on to take more risks and face new challenges. Only when those risks end in pain, or they are told that they can’t do something, do they lose confidence. Fear is a powerful destroyer of courage.
In our world today, life’s sudden storms that shake our confidence show us how tightly we are holding on to things that were not meant to anchor us. Anxiety or fear can overcome our peace and we don’t want to lose what we hold dear, even if it leaves us comfortless.
But we can have assurance that God is our strength and our shield. He is the only way our hearts and minds can rest peacefully no matter what happens each day. When those fears come, try letting go of them and trust the one who has conquered sin and death! That kind of power and love can produce unwavering confidence in the God who holds you tenderly in the palm of His hand. He has only good things in store for you and for your future. Trust Him and see your heart leap for joy when you have the assurance of God’s devotedness to you.
