If you are using Windows 10 and haven’t seen this screen yet, you will. If you have it set to automatically download and install updates like I apparently do then when you get to the office to work you will instead be greeted by this screen. Now most of the updates I’ve seen have said “this will take a minute” or “this might take a few minutes”. So when this screen popped up and told me it would be a “while” I decided to run some errands. An hour and a half later I got back and it was still going.
Currently this is how my life feels. There are updates that are being installed and until they finish I am just in a holding pattern. There’s not really anything to do, just wait. But waiting is not nothing. There is fellowship with Him in the waiting.
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
Philippians 1:6 New American Standard Bible
Often the formation that God has for us feels so foreign and wrong. He calls us to new places that are uncomfortable and we have to be there longer than we would like. Maybe searching for a new job or sticking with a job that we increasingly hate.
Sometimes the formation comes in the way of pain. Perhaps real and physical pain in us or in one that we love. The pain feels so unnecessary. Why! To what end do we have to wrestle or deal with these painful places?!
Or the formation is just like a blank page. Nothing there, we have no pen, just a blank page. Sit and look at the blank page a while. Seems like a waste of time.
But nothing is wasted with Him. Whether it is a foreign place, painful place or just a waiting place, He is here, with you, with me. He is in the midst of us… with us. If those words don’t strike a chord with you then this blog might not be for you right now, come back and read it again another time. God is with you in the midst of it all. Nothing is wasted. Not time, not suffering, not pain.
