“…while we wait for the blessed hope–the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
Titus 2:13  New International Version

Have you ever ordered something, and it took much longer to arrive than advertised?  Or longer than you expected?  How did that make you feel?  Ticked off?  Irritated?  Anxious?  Happy?  Wait, happy?  I mean, full disclosure, I wouldn’t be, but I can’t discount that some of you are more patient than I!

So, what if you ordered something, and it arrived much sooner than you expected?  Has that happened to you?  How did you feel then?  Surprised?  Giddy?  Thankful?  This happened to me recently.  I ordered some wine from an Italian winery.  I assumed it would take 2-3 months to arrive, so I didn’t even ask the winery how long I would wait.  Less than two weeks later, I received several texts from DHL.  I assumed they were junk texts.  Late that day, DHL delivered my box of Italian wines.  I was surprised, giddy, somewhat unbelieving, and, yes, thankful!

The Psalms often encourage us to wait for the Lord.  To wait expectantly.  To wait confidently.  In today’s verse from Titus, the Apostle Paul reminds us that we are waiting for the “blessed hope–the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”  Paul wasn’t wishing life away.  He characterized our life as one of a blessed hope in the Christ who always comes to us.  I like that Paul didn’t use a noun–appearance.  Instead, he used a verb–appearing.  Our Lord is a God of action.  He comes to us daily in his Word.  He comes to speak to our soul through the power of the Gospel.  He will come again.  Count on it.  Wait for it.  The Lord always comes through.
