Waiting Anxiously

The mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ will come.

Ever make a mistake and later look back to realize that it could have gone much worse than it did? What if another car had been coming down that road when this happened? These aren’t my skid marks but they could have been. I have made dumb mistakes while driving and by God’s grace and mercy it did not turn out worse than it could have.

Not just mistakes while driving that could have really gone bad, think of all the mistakes you have made in your job, your family, relationships. There are a plethora of ways that my life could have gone in bad directions.

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. And have mercy on some, who are doubting; save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory, blameless with great joy,
to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
Jude 20-25 New American Standard Bible

How do we explain these things? Are they just dumb luck? Is it fate? No, but we see the hand of the Lord in them. He is the one Who is able to keep us from stumbling. He has brought us through, prevented calamity, healed illness, directed steps, saved relationships and makes us to stand in his presence blameless with great joy. The fact that He has done it in the past enables us to remember and to wait anxiously for it to happen in our present circumstances.

Lord, when those around us talk about luck, or fate, let us instead become witnesses to Your hand. You have preserved us one more day today and there is a purpose. We proclaim Your glory. We will not be silent.
