“But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33b New International Version
I enjoy air travel. Each airport is unique, and it’s fun to explore the foods and shops at each terminal. The majority of my trips have been uneventful. I arrive, board, fly, and land more or less on time.
On my last flight, I left Denver in snowy weather. I could see the ice glistening on the wings and knew extra precautions would be taken so that we could take off safely. I have faith in the pilots and the ground crew, to be certain all is in order before we take off.
On days like this, my thoughts wander. What if there’s an error? What if today is my last day?
I’m trusting my life to people I don’t know.
I comfort myself by firing off a quick text to my husband and children to tell them I love them. I talk to God. Eventually, everything is ready and the flight goes off without a hitch.
I’m still here; God’s not ready to take me home yet.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5 English Standard Version
Faith requires our trust in God, even when trusting him seems to make no sense. At times, it seems easy to have faith in people, but a challenge to have faith in God. We can feel insignificant in the presence of an almighty Creator. Do we truly matter to him?
Take heart. God is here, he’s got everything under control, and you are most significant to him.
Trust God in all circumstances. Get to know him. Talk to him. Listen.
He wants to be in relationship with you.
It’s Advent, a time between the American Thanksgiving holiday and Christmas. It’s a time to learn how God sends his Son to us as a baby. Babies are beginnings of life. Come see the baby and begin your relationship with him.
