“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”
Psalm 27:14 English Standard Version
My son’s family has a dog named Hank. He loves to get outside and go “hunting”. But just a few days ago, Colorado Springs had a sudden snow storm, and poor Hank seems a little put out by snow in April!
It is hard to wait for things you love. Delayed gratification is a difficult trait to nurture! Especially as Americans, we want things now! It is hard to wait for spring or Christmas or good health or a new baby or any other good thing.
In response to this anxious impatience that we have, King David says, “Wait for the Lord!” In the midst of fear and pain, he says “Be strong and let your heart take courage!” Place your fears and anxiety into His hands. Call out to Him and do not trust in your resources. Find peace in His unfailing love and faithfulness. Bring your heart and mind into conformity with His goodness. Instead of thinking of our troubles and weaknesses, place your thoughts and emotions on Jesus Christ.
The Lord Jesus knew how to wait upon His Father. As He hung on the cross, He committed His very life into the Father’s hands. Because Jesus has done the Father’s will and trusted in Him, we too can place our trust in our Father. Because Jesus paid for our sins and gave us all things, yes, even eternal life, we can trust our Father and wait upon Him.
Wait on the Lord! In every circumstance, wait on the Lord!
Dear Lord, thank you that we can place our trust in You. We cast all our anxieties and fears and impatience onto you this day. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
