When our timing is off.

My husband and I were exploring downtown St Louis, Missouri and had plans to meet up with family at a designated place, but we thought we had plenty of time. As we were enjoying ourselves, I paused to take a picture of this cool clock and noticed the time. Three o’clock?! We were late! We began to rush, mumbling about how time got away from us and being concerned about keeping people waiting. Only we weren’t actually late. This clock was off by an hour.

Are there times when you end up rushing to make something happen within your timeline? Me, too. Feeling the urgent weight of fleeting time, I try to push things along. I panic, hurry, and question God when His timetable seems off.

Of course, the reality is that God’s timing is perfect and, just like the clock, it’s our timing that’s off.

In our finite understanding, locked in our own earth rhythms, it is hard to comprehend how God works outside of our of limitations. Yet, we can trust His timing; He is never late. He is not rushed, not concerned. He’s got it.

Father of time, help us trust Your process. May our hearts beat in rhythm with Yours, steady and patient as You do Your work in Your perfect time. Amen.
