What does God require of You?

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Micah 6:8 New International Version
What is the point of life? Is it to make money, be powerful, live in ease and comfort, or have everyone like you? Is it to be famous, to have lots of friends, or be voted the most popular? God says that all of these things and many others that people strive for are foolishness and striving after the wind. All of these goals show that the person who strives after them has no sense of who God is and who they are for eternity.
So if many of the things that people want are foolish, what is the point of life? Micah says that the Lord requires that we “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.” In other words, knowing who I am in God’s sight is far more important than what others think of me and being in a right relationship with Him is worth more than all the riches and fame and pleasures of life.
Who am I in God’s sight? I am a sinner whom God redeemed by sending His Son, Jesus, to die on a cross to save me from sin, death, and the devil. And because of Jesus, I am a child of God, made clean and whole and pure and righteous in His sight. I have the joy of being with the Lord forever and I have the privilege of telling all that I meet that our God is strong and righteous and compassionate and that He sent His Son to bring forgiveness into the whole world.
Dear Lord, thank you for making me your child in Jesus Christ and showing me what life is all about. Amen.
