“You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Psalm 16:11 English Standard Version
I will never cease to be amazed about the pure joy that can come from a child seeing any type of animal. After a rainy day, my boys and I went out to play in the puddles. A butterfly decided to join us and my two boys stopped everything they were doing to marvel at this tiny creature. What joy this tiny yellow butterfly brought them.
I cannot imagine the joy of being in the full presence of my Lord and Savior, yet in a way, I can. David is writing this Psalm, speaking of being in the presence of Yahweh. We are in Christ’s presence every time we pray together, participate in Communion together, or forgive each other for our sins in God’s name. These are glimpses of the joy that we have as a body of Christ together. What joy we have in communally singing our praises to God, but even more so, what joy we will have at being reunited with Him. He will return to us to restore us in a right relationship with him so that we may stand in awe of his glory. What joy we will feel!
