What’s in a Word?

God’s word is everlasting and true.

“When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies.”
Jeremiah 15:16 New Living Translation

Our society loves signs. We want our thoughts and opinions to be known to the world. We hang words in our house, attach them to our cars and post them on Facebook. We want everyone to know how much we love our dog or cat, who we are going to vote for in the next election, what kind of music we listen to, or what word we’ve chosen to reflect on for a new year.

As believers in God, we have His words that he graciously gave to benefit us. They reveal God’s goodness through His promises, give guidance and encouragement for living and proclaim His unconditional love for us. We are shown how to pray to our Heavenly Father and love others as Christ loves us.

We are truly blessed that we have a Heavenly Father who communicates to us through His Word and the Holy Spirit.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, a day to show gratitude to our Lord for all He has given us. As you spend time thanking Him for his blessings, remember the words God has spoken to you—words of power that strengthened you, words of encouragement in hard times, words of comfort as you grieved. Use your words this day to bring God praise, give Him glory and honor His most blessed name!

Sing a new song of praise to him;
     play skillfully on the harp and sing with joy.
For the word of the Lord holds true,
     and we can trust everything he does.
He loves whatever is just and good;
     the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.”
Psalm 33:3-5 New Living Translation
