“Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered.”
(Luke 12:7) English Standard Version
Does your hair ever look like this? Does your life? Or, at the least, life can seem like it looks like this. Tangled! Rat’s nest! Messy! Snarled! Angry! God has you!
Can you imagine counting the hairs on this head? No thank you. But the Lord can. The Lord does. The Lord has! Even if your life looks like this. Or worse. God has you. Even if your feelings look like this. Or worse. God has you. Even if your heart seems like it must look like this. Or worse. God has you. Even if your mind is a jumbled mess like this. Or worse. God has you. Even if your soul wrestles with tangles like this. Or worse. God has you.
Frankly, I have had times when my very faith seemed as though it were pictured here. Even then, God had me. And has me still. And you. God has us. In the palm of his hand, and nothing can snatch us out of his hand. Tucked neatly into a “you shaped” space in God’s heart, God has you. God has you. God has you.
Actually, God doesn’t have to count the hairs on our heads. My head gives him increasingly less challenge. But not my heart, my soul, my feelings, my anxious mind. Our hairs are already ‘numbered,’ Jesus said. Each one, born with a number. God knows that number. All the numbers.
Even Jesus counted on the Father having him. “Why have you forsaken me?” Jesus cried. A heart, feelings, mind, and soul all tangled together. Yes, even Jesus, for us. “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” Even so, Jesus knew and trusted that the Father had him. He spoke to the one thief on his cross, “I’ve got you!” Well, it’s loose paraphrase. But it speaks God’s assurance. “I have you today.”
