“But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
Genesis 3:9  English Standard Version

Adam and Eve were not under a blanket in the sun.  In fact, by the time the Lord showed up in the Garden of Eden, they were hiding, wearing loincloths they fashioned out of fig leaves.  What do you think they used as thread?  But, I digress.

On a beautiful, sunny day, I received a text photo from my son.  My two grand kids had gone outside.  One would think, to play in the sun.  Nope.  There they were, covered by blankets in the middle of the front yard, each with an Ipad.  Where are they in the picture?  Cavorting, carefree in the spring sunshine?  Nope, under a blanket.  Now, they were not wearing hip, fig-couture.  They were not hiding either.  The sunshine made it hard to see the screens.  Why didn’t they just stay inside, you ask?  Yeah, I don’t know.

At first glance, one might not realize there are two children under those blankets.  God would know.  Just as he knew where Adam and Eve were hiding in the garden.  And why.  I think the Lord was asking, “Where are you at now?”  In other words, what have you done and where has it gotten you?  Equal with God?  Nope.  Hiding in the bushes.

I look at the picture of my hidden grandchildren, and I want to say, “Come out into the sun.  Let’s play.”  I have a feeling the Lord would rather have said that to Adam and Eve.  The Lord calls us out.  Not to slap us around.  Now, he did have to tell Adam and Eve that what he had said was true.  ‘Eat the forbidden fruit and you will create death for yourselves.’  I paraphrase.  But the Lord also spoke the first Gospel promise of a Savior (Genesis 3:15).  He also gave them proper clothing.  And he did not abandon them.  He was present to them still as they left the Garden.

All of this is to say, “Come out, come out, wherever you are!  The Lord is calling.  He calls through the Word of the Gospel of Jesus.  The Lord is calling you today.  Shed the cover of darkness.  Come into My Light.  His name is Jesus.”  Listen.  It is the Sound of God Speaking.  To you.
