“Though your sins are like scarlet,

    they shall be as white as snow;

though they are red like crimson,

    they shall become like wool.”

Isaiah 1:18 English Standard Version

Color stands out starkly in snow. Whether that be red, or yellow, or any other color, it is pronounced next to the perfect white snow. It is hard to hide, cannot easily be covered up, and cannot be removed. Our sin covers us, cannot be removed by our own actions, and we cannot hide from our failures.

This season, we think of the one who can truly redeem us. He can make us white as snow, white as wool, without any blemish or color. Jesus Christ, the lamb of God, came to earth as a baby to live, die, and rise again so that we will be restored. He washed us clean of our sin so that it no longer marks us, but instead we are marked by the blood of the lamb. If there is snow outside, look out the window and think of the magnificent gift of grace, given to us in Jesus. We are white, made new and clean, because of him.
