“He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.”
Colossians 1:18b English Standard Version

My friend, Mick, loves Pepsi.  He drinks so much Pepsi that the Pepsi truck driver gave him a free shirt!

What do you love? Maybe its your kids or your car or your pet or your house or your garden or your favorite sports team or your favorite food or your favorite band or maybe you love yourself. Of all the things that you love what do you love most?

Martin Luther said that whatever we love most is our god.  Do you have a god in your life that you love more than Jesus?  Do you worship something or someone more than your Savior, something with whom you spend more time and energy?

Make no mistake about it, Jesus is Number One!  He is the firstborn from the dead, the Father’s only begotten Son, the beginning and the end, the Son of God and the Lord of all things and all people.  Worshiping him and following him is more important than all the other “loves” you have in your life.  He will have no rival, he requires that you not only have a relationship with him, but that the relationship with him is above all other relationships.

All worship and adoration and thanks are due only Jesus Christ, who left his throne on high and humbled himself, being born of a woman.  And he became obedient to His Father’s will, even to the point of dying upon a cross to forgiven the sins of the world.

Again, I ask, who is number one in your life?…

Lord Jesus, forgive me when I do not hold you as number one in my life.  You deserve all worship and praise.  Thank you for saving me and loving me even when I did not first love you.  Jesus, you are number one… Amen.
