“What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?”
Psalm 8:4 English Standard Version
Yes, this is a picture of yours truly at a very young age. Recently we were asked to submit our baby pictures for a baby shower event, Looking at the pictures of myself and my sons as babies made me ask the question, “What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?”
Lord, why did you bother creating me? Why did you cause me to be born and to be nurtured and cared for? Why did you give me reason and senses and emotions and plans and dreams? Why did you create me in your image, and make me just a little lower than the angels? Why do you care about me, this insignificant creature in the middle of your vast universe? You, who made the heavens and earth and all that is in them, why do you care about me so much?
Lord, why did you create humans, men and women of every description? Why did you make us knowing that we would disobey you and rebel against you and dishonor you? Why did you love us when we fell into sin, love us so much that you would send your own Son into this world to save us? Why did He suffer the wrath, the punishment that should have been ours upon the cross? Why did He drink the cup of suffering, wear the crown of thorns, take the nails and the spear and the whip into his perfect body?
Yes, Lord, I do not understand your love and faithfulness, your compassion and kindness. Thank you for that amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me…. Amen.
