Our hearts are purified and united by His blood.

“But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.”
Ephesians 2:13 New Living Translation

The people in this photo appear united in their purpose, their hands forming the foundation for the very bright red heart to be painted on them. As soon as I saw the scarlet red color, it reminded me of blood.

In Christ, that is how we are united-through the blood He shed on the cross. This selfless act of wanting to redeem us from death led Christ to drench us in His blood of atonement, sealing us to Him for all eternity. It also seals us to others who believe in Jesus, because He made us all one family with His great sacrifice.

Eventually the red paint on the hands in the photo would have to be washed off so they could carry on with their lives. But the blood of the Lamb is with us forever, drawing us closer to Him and each other.

Being washed in His blood cleanses us but never leaves a stain. In fact, we have been made pure and are now clothed in white robes of His victory over death. This should bring joy to our hearts and praises to God for His sacrifice and love. That’s the best Valentine we could ever receive.
