“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
Psalm 139:14 English Standard Version

When Samuel Morse sent his first telegraph message from Washington DC to Baltimore, he sent these words, “What hath God wrought?”  This is a great question… What has God wrought, or brought about?  David expresses very similar words when he wrote, “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

God has created an amazing and wonderful world.  My granddaughter loves exploring that world, whether finding beautiful leaves in a wheelbarrow or finding a snail in a garden.  But the most amazing part of creation is you and me, created in God’s image with all of our intricacies and creativity and emotions and thoughts.

Why were we created in God’s image?  So that we could enjoy Him and His creation and praise Him for all that He has done and made.  But when sin marred and tarnished God’s creation in us, God did not abandon His creation, but sent His own Son to die for our sins, to bring us back into harmony and joy and reconciliation with Him.

God’s creation is amazing and beautiful and awesome.  But what is even more amazing and beautiful and awesome is that He loved us so much that He sent His own Son to bring us back to the Father so that we might be restored and forgiven and might praise Him for ever and ever in eternal fellowship with Him.  Indeed, we are fearfully and wondrously made and restored to Him, and our soul knows that very well!

“Amazing grace – how sweet the sound –
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found.
Was blind but now I see!”
