Viewing the World Through the Lens of the Bible

I imagine you are like me and can get dizzy with all the news stories and developments that happen each and everyday around the world. It could be the heat waves that seem to be gripping different areas, or the wars and conflicts around the globe, or even the political stories of the day. With all of that churn, you may wonder where God is in all of it. You may wonder, how are Christians supposed to respond?

That, my friend, is a question of worldview. A Christian worldview is a framework of ideas and beliefs based on the God’s Word, the Bible. It helps us understand where we come from, why bad things happen, and how God fixes the world through Jesus Christ. I want to stress how important it is for us to grow in that worldview and reject secular models.

The core of a Christian worldview includes:

God: An all-powerful, personal, and triune Creator who is actively involved in the universe.
Creation: The universe and humanity were purposefully made good by God.
Human Nature: Humans are made in the image of God, but are inherently fallen due to the reality of sin.
Morality: Objective, absolute moral truths exist and are defined by Scripture.
Destiny: History moves toward God’s ultimate redemption, featuring personal eternal life or separation from God

In Colossians 2:6-8, we read,

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”
English Standard Version

Everybody on the planet has a worldview, the question is, which lens is it? I commend you to use the lens of the Bible! By reading it, by studying it, by engaging at a local church with fellow believers, you will grow in your knowledge and love of the Lord!

So when I get dizzy with all the news stories and developments around the world, I seek to see where God fits into how I should be viewing these matters. God loves us and He knows best, and so His Word provides us with all that we need to make sense of a crazy world.
