You Can Run but You Can’t Hide

Hide and Seek

Adam and Eve found that they could hide in the bushes but God still found them. In a similar vein, you can think if you don’t repent He won’t see your sin. The truth is, He sees everything all the time.

“…and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”” Genesis 3:8 English Standard Version

God not only knows when we sin, but he already knew we were going to sin. As crazy as this sounds, it’s actually comforting. The closer I’ve gotten to God, the more I know that my sin doesn’t affect His love for me. He wants the best for me and it’s better that I repent and let Him heal me than to hide from God in my shame.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love;” Jeremiah 31:3 English Standard Version

“Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you, I give men in return for you, peoples in exchange for your life.” Isaiah 43:4 English Standard Version

He loves us so much that He won’t let us hide from Him. He comes to seek us out of our hiding place.

Interestingly, the only hiding place that is truly secure is God.

“You are my hiding place. You protect me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance.” Psalm 32:7 English Standard Version

If the only hiding place that is absolutely secure is with God, why would we ever think hiding from Him is a good idea? Just a guess, Adam and Eve didn’t even think to hide from God until they entertained Satan’s suggestions. Could it be that we have done the same?

If it crosses your mind to hide from God, don’t. This is what Satan wants for us, to hide and isolate. If Satan can keep us separated from God then we are rendered powerless.
