Whether our houses or our minds are full of clutter that hinders us, we need time with Jesus to sweep away the mess.
“A time to keep things and a time to throw things away.”
Ecclesiastes 3:6 Easy-to-Read Version|
Decluttering has become very popular recently. We accumulate too much stuff, cramming it into boxes, closets, and attics. In the US especially, excess belongings often end up hindering what people truly want to do with their lives, consuming valuable time, space, and money just to manage them.
Clutter prevents you from living the life you were meant to live. It interferes with your ability to do your work well or to fully enjoy life. Decluttering removes what detracts from your life rather than adding to it and letting go of what you no longer need.
But it goes far beyond physical possessions. It’s vital to clear the clutter from our corrupted perspective, our thoughts, and our lifestyles. When mental and spiritual clutter is removed, we can know the heart of Jesus and His purpose for us. Then we can live more fully in the light of Christ’s love and His deep, abiding peace.
There will always be more things demanding your attention and competing for space in your life. Return to the simple practice of spending time with Jesus. Ask Him to clear the clutter of your mind, heart and soul that hinders you from the abundant life in Christ. He will help you discern between the things you should treasure in your heart and what you should throw away that’s holding you back.
