You’ve Been So Good to Me

Better Than I’ve Been to Myself

As I was worshipping to a Christian song at church this morning, the song “Shout” by The Isley Brothers ran though my head, in particular the verse in the song, “You’ve been so good to me.” I realized as those lyrics were replaying in my mind that God has been so good to me and as I’m asking for the next blessing, I should continue to bless Him for all he’s done for me.

The other part of the song after, “You’ve been so good to me” is “Better than I’ve been to myself.” Isn’t that true about God! He’s better at seeing us than we are at seeing ourselves. His grace and mercy never run out.

“The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth.” Exodus 34:6 English Standard Version

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” 1 Chronicles 16:34 English Standard Version

The reminder of God’s goodness is something I need to hear regularly, if not daily. I forget that his goodness is what carries me into the next season, the next project, and the spot I am in right now. He is so good that he will take care of the people I love and care about, my career, everything that I care for.

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13 English Standard Version

“I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness. They shall utter the memory of Your great goodness, and shall sing of Your righteousness.” Psalm 145:5-7 English Standard Version

Thank God and praise Him for loving us more than we can imagine. This is one way our spirits are lifted and brings our mind, body and soul into communion with God.
