“The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.”
Psalm 16:6 English Standard Version

Homeowners, do you remember how you felt when you bought your first house? You were probably elated, excited, overwhelmed and perhaps a little anxious. I live in an apartment, and I don’t yet know what it is like to own a house or my own land yet, but I’m looking forward to that experience. I wonder how many of us wish we could extend the boundaries of our property, just a little bit? It’s nice to have a little more room, right?

This Psalm of David is written with the imagery of an allocation of land, and the lines refer to the measurement of the property. David uses this imagery to describe contentment and great joy in our Lord God, our eternal inheritance, and our confidence in His provision for us. This psalm says to us that not only is our inheritance sufficient, it is also a beautiful inheritance, a generous one, and more than we deserve. God provides for us, here on earth, with the things we need. Even though at times it may feel as if we have nothing, we actually have been provided with what we need and more. He also provides for us eternally with the gift of salvation through Christ, that we may live forever in His midst in heaven. All good things we receive come from the hand of God and are more than fallen sinners deserve, but our God is gracious, loving, and merciful.
