“The Lord your God is in your midst, a  mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 English Standard Version

What an incredible God we have!

The Lord our God is mighty. He is a warrior, fighting our battles. He goes before us and beside us. He is our fortress and our stronghold.

Lift up your eyes on high and see:
who created these?
He who brings out their host by number,
calling them all by name;
by the greatness of his might
and because he is strong in power,
not one is missing.
Isaiah 40:26 ESV

A Mighty OneHe is not a God who is hardened and distant. He is not just a fighter without a heart. God  rejoices over us in gladness. He loves us with a tender heart. Like a father takes delight in his children, so our Heavenly Father takes delight in us.

“As the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.”
Isaiah 62:5b NIV

In the midst of the storms, He will quiet us. He will quiet our spirits and our wrestling hearts. He wraps His loving arms around us and comforts us with His Spirit. We have assurance of salvation because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We have security in the love of our Father. We have the security of His everlasting love and everlasting life. Nothing in heaven or on earth can separate us from the love of God.

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 NIV

He exults over us with loud singing. The definition of exult is to be extremely joyful; rejoice; or to leap for joy. This last description is filled with actions of joy. Loud singing comes from a place of passion and energy and joy. This imagery of God’s love is incredibly moving and beautiful. He finds joy in His creation and in His children. We are His chosen and redeemed, not because of anything we have done to earn it, but because of God’s mercy and compassion. He pursues us no matter where we wander.
