Abide in the Vine

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5, English Standard Version

Our daughter is a climber. If there’s a tree that looks like a challenge, she’s already halfway to the top before I can caution, “be sure your holds are solid!” I took this picture last weekend and it immediately reminded me of what Jesus tells us in this verse. I’m telling her to grip tightly as she climbs; to ensure her footholds and hand placements are intentionally selected.

Jesus tells us very plainly that remaining continuously connected to Him means spiritual fruit will be the result. When we attempt to place our attention and trust elsewhere, clinging to false footholds, our feet fail. Lasting spiritual strength and resilience come from Christ alone. Lord, teach us to abide in you always.
