“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 NIV

The word of God, the Bible, is not simply a book, it is living and breathing. This is a tool, a gift from God, to be used. We are equipped to discern the struggles we go through. We have a weapon against evil forces and against our own sinful flesh.

The word of God brings out our conscience. It judges and weighs and points us in the right direction. It is discerning. The Bible opens up the reflections and intentions of the heart. It reaches to the most hidden and secret things. Truth is uncovered.

“So is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:11 NIV

The reason that the Bible is so powerful is because the Holy Spirit dwells among the Word. The Spirit is always present, working through the words in order to do the work of God. As we read and preach God’s Word, the Spirit is active in our hearts and in the hearts of all who hear.

The Word of God is always relevant and always applicable. It is the solid foundation. When we have struggles and questions, the Word of God is the first place to turn to. When we need comfort or peace, the Bible and prayer is where we ought to run. Our Bibles should not be sitting on a shelf getting dusty when they contain such incredible power, wisdom, and truth.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:1-5 ESV
