Almighty, Everlasting, King

The majesty of God.

The critters in this photograph look like they’re ready for a worship service. The light is pouring down from above as if shining through a stain glass window, and high on the wall in front of them is a cross. They face the wall in obedient expectation, waiting for the first hymn to begin or the sermon to start.

Actually, of course, we have no idea what these critters are really doing or thinking. Sometimes we don’t even know those things about ourselves! We do know, however, that most of us fail to truly worship God with the reverence He deserves. Inside the church building we may catch ourselves criticizing the music or sermon, pondering our afternoon plans, or doing any number of other things that are not worship. Outside the church building, the world and its distractions continually bombard us and attempt to pull us away from the truth of who God is.

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
1 Timothy 1:17 New International Version

There’s a lot of information packed into the short sentence above. If you ponder it very long you may find yourself as I am, overwhelmed.  When we think about God, we tend to think too small.  If we truly believed every moment in the almighty ruling power and authority of God, then we would walk boldly into and through every earthly situation. We would never fear man nor anything seen or unseen aside from God Himself. We may have moments with this type of clarity, but it is not constant. Our imaginations and comprehension are not big enough.

God is the ruler over us. He is the absolute and final authority over everything. He will not be deposed, conquered, or outlived. He is the only God and His reign is never ending. He answers to no one but Himself. We cannot see Him, but we serve Him. All honor and glory are His alone.

Ponder the absolute majesty of God. Serve Him alone. Worship Him, acknowledging His power and compassion. Bow, kneel, and lay prostrate before Him. He is your King.
